Like many hearing parents, Richard Medugno and his wife Brenda grieved when they learned in 1993 that their 17-month-old daughter Miranda was deaf. Soon after though, Medugno seized upon the need to take positive action for her. In this book, he shares their remarkable journey during Miranda's first 14 years.

They research the best communication mode for Miranda, choosing ASL as the best option, and proceed to surround her with opportunities to learn sign language, from meeting with other deaf individuals and families to hiring deaf babysitters. Medugno also learns ASL to ensure communication with her and moves the family from Toronto, Canada to Fremont, California so that Miranda is able to attend the California School for the Deaf (CSD).

Deaf Daughter, Hearing Father shares practical information on many common challenges encountered by hearing parents with deaf children. Medugno's enthusiasm for all possibilities, from exploring videophones to helping stage musicals, reveals his devotion to his daughter and enabling her to feel proud, confident and happy in her pursuits. Simultaneously, Medugno realizes the rewards of having a deaf daughter are greater than he could have hoped for or imagined. [Richard Medugno; (2005) 184 pages; soft cover]
