  1. A serious issue Review by deaflady
    Overall Satisfaction

I have been using captioned telephones for several years, my first, a Clear Captions phone developed an echo feedback loop which they seemed unable to fix, so I purchased a Clarity Ensemble. While I like many of the visual features and the sound is good I am giving it a one star and would give a negative if I could because of one dangerous and unnecessary feature that puts users at risk. The FCC requires those using captioned phones register those phones for access to captioning. All other companies including Clear Captions and CapTel require a ONE TIME registration when the phone is obtained. The phone is usable without registration, but no captions. With Clarity, registration is ongoing and through the internet connection. If the internet is down for whatever reason, or there are technical problems at Clarity, (as happened multiple times recently) the phone can not be used for anything except 911 calls and Clarity support. All other use is blocked. Dead. You are affectively without a phone. This puts anyone who has no other means of communication (Internet down, can't hear on regular phones etc.) who is elderly, lives alone, or vulnerable in a way at risk. There are many urgent situations that do not warrant, nor should be used for a 911 call. For instance, inability to contact anyone for help when snowbound, (just happened to me) a water line break causing a flood, heating out during freesing weather, a pet emergency and so on, where it is essential a person be able to use their phone. All the other captioning phone brands allow for regular phone use without the captions, and also allow those without hearing problems to turn the captions off, so regardless of the internet connection or potential technical issues, the phone is always available for use. I suggest anyone considering a captioning phone for themselves or a loved one, avoid Clarity until they address this situation and change it. To repeat, the way they are doing their registration is not an FCC requirement, it is a Clarity design decision.
I am switching to a CapTel (which also has the added feature of flashing lights to let you know when there is a call or a message - with Clarity, you have to go to the phone and physically touch the screen to see if there are calls or messages and it's easy to forget to do that all the time - but this is minor compared to the above)

I can only review your initial procedures--negatively--since a) my son informed me of the purchase and to expect notification, b) your initial notification said there would be a call to set installation and C) SO FAR IN TEN OR MORE DAYS ABSOLUTELY NO PHONE FOLLOWUP (Posted on 7/19/2016)

  5. Difficult for Elderly to Operate Review by Theodore
    Overall Satisfaction

We have installed this phone in our house for our father. He uses the computer and is computer literate, however, this phone has a lot of quirks and poor interface design that challenge him and I am sure limits your market share to the elderly or those even less computer literate than my father. Retrieving messages or voice mail needs to be simplified. Also loose connection or something many times when we go to put in our password. if you don't put it in within a couple of seconds you loose connection I assume you loose connection because we get an audilble, beep, beep, beep......and have to starte all over. This product has a lot of potential however, the current interface is poor. I would rate this phone a 4 out of 10. (Posted on 3/31/2016)

  6. Caption doesn't work sometimes Review by Mike
    Overall Satisfaction

It is a real improvement in phones for severe hearing problems but definitely not perfect. It would be perfect if the captioning worked all the time properly. I am waiting for a new and improved model. (Posted on 2/20/2016)

It is extremely helpful but also not perfect as the closed caption is delayed and also it doesn't work if another phone is picked up first on the same phone line. (Posted on 4/1/2015)

  9. needs old fashioned phone connection Review by Lis
    Overall Satisfaction

I used this at a friend's house and loved it. Ordered mine the same day, however I did not understand that a plain old landline connection is required. The internet needs are explained clearly, but most people in our area have everything through the computer modem. I am not happy I have to pay for a landline to make this work, but I will. 13. After significant trials & tribulations, exactly what I need! Review by "M"
    Overall Satisfaction

It is important to remember that the phone is analog (and does not work with many digital phone systems.). Yet you need digital, broad band internet. TWC came out twice before we got their triple play system functioning with the phone AND internet! However, I no longer fear having to talk on the phone anymore!...exactly what I needed! 14. Great Product !! Review by JADiggan in PA
    Overall Satisfaction

After years of using a relay type phone , I have found that this phone to be much better for me because I can call the party I need to call myself and be able to redial without calling the relay every time. Also , the big plus for me is being able to answer a call no matter how the call comes in. (Posted on 4/28/2014)

  15. not pleased, sadly Review by a customer
    Overall Satisfaction

we had high hopes for this product, especially for the answering machine aspect...but the captioning on the messages left consistently gave us only part of the message and even then got enough of the words wrong so as to make it unintelligible.... we had to send the Ensemble back -- though Harris properly gave us a full refund for which we were pleased (Posted on 4/25/2014)

  16. Amazing Review by Gene
    Overall Satisfaction

Suffering from Sudden Hearing Loss, Meniere's or whatever I am being treated for at this time has made talking on a regular or cell phone almost impossible, The Clarity has solved that issue. I can have business and personal conversations close to what I had before. Closed captioning is like TV..a second or two behind, If you explain it to the person you're talking with its not an issue. This is a GREAT phone if you have severe hearing impairment. Puts you right back in the game! (Posted on 4/23/2014)

In using this I find it is slower than I expected but it still is very valuable when you need it. I was concerned if we have an emergency and calling 911. This will work great and I can get help when I need it. I feel better being prepared with this phone. (Posted on 2/13/2014)

  19. Frustrated Review by CL
    Overall Satisfaction

If I could ever get this phone hooked up and running like I'm supposed to then maybe I could review properly. Been a nightmare! Need to be more specific when selling the phone that you need high speed internet, my mom is 85 year old and didn't have internet at her house, so that is an added expense, then I wasn't told, and it's not in the instructions, that you have to set up an account online at clear captions before you can get the captions, then once I "thought" I had the information set up I never received an email to continue. So I tried to go back to set up again and because I'm already in the system, or she is, I can't set up again. Then it's telling me I either have to buy a phone or pay the $75. I have the phone but there's no where to put in the serial number or anything telling the online system that I have one. ARRRGGGGG! If the captions are not better than the last phone she had the phone WILL be returned! (Posted on 1/4/2014)

  22. Very Helpful Product Review by Caregiver
    Overall Satisfaction

Mom is 90 yrs old and couldn't hear a thing on the phone. Frustrating for her and for us. While the phone is very intuitive to set up and use, teaching her to use anything new is a challenge. When she remembers to turn on the cc feature its a great product. The time delay on the captioning is an issue, but as long as the callers know to be patient then it works beautifully. The price was right, the setup easy. It solved our communication problems. Highly recommend this phone. (Posted on 10/31/2013)

  24. Well pleased with the Phone. Review by Marty
    Overall Satisfaction

I agree with other Reviewers Comments, the captioning seems to be a bid slow, but the Volume Control Works Great? If any future enhancements are considered, adding a Speaker Phone Capability would be a great addition, for anyone wishing to listen in on the conversation. (Posted on 8/23/2013)

  25. Not working Review by Lisa
    Overall Satisfaction

I received the phone and it does not work. It is defective. I am very disappointed and sending it back to you and expect another replacement. I have spent over 48 hours to resolve this. I have caption call and not a problem at all. (Posted on 8/23/2013)

  26. Looks Great on Desk and Boosts Voice Well Review by RP
    Overall Satisfaction

I can easily hear the voice using the Clarity Ensemble Phone, usually without the voice boost. The captioning is the weakest part of the phone in that it is slow and often not correct. The voice engine used by the now defunct app, Orchestra, almost never misses a word whereas this translator seems to miss quite a few words. The fact that the text arrives about 2 or 3 seconds later than the sound of the voice is still a bit confusing. It is a good phone and it is a shame the captions are not a little faster and more accurate. A software upgrade could make this a 5 star phone. (Posted on 8/1/2013)

  27. replacement received today and seems to be working fine. Wish I could get rid of the slight delay in the captions. Otherwise, its great! Review by billie hintz
