Press Release May 2007
Eden Prairie, MN
When it comes to fire safety, deaf and hard of hearing people can be at risk. Many don't have a smoke detector designed for individuals with hearing loss. Even though special smoke detectors are available, they are more expensive. Consequently, many people go without.
Harris Communications is very aware of the problems with fire safety and the deaf and hard of hearing population. We have been selling assistive devices to deaf and hard of hearing people for 25 years and know the special needs of this demographic. In cooperation with one of our suppliers, we are pleased that we can offer some assistance.
Harris Communications, through its long-standing relationship with Gentex Corporation, is able to offer smoke detectors at a greatly reduced price to fire departments and other non-profit groups as a way to provide them to deaf and hard of hearing members in their communities. In order to maintain the integrity of the program, the pricing is not published and is not offered to dealers or any other reseller.
If you are interested in knowing more about obtaining these smoke detectors, contact Bill Williams, National Sales Manager for Harris Communications at bwilliams@harriscomm.com. His direct line is 800-582-8569.
We hope this program may help you provide for the deaf and hard of hearing people in your community.
