A powerful learning tool to improve recognition of fingerspelled words. Deaf people introduce themselves in an unrehearsed setting, followed by an enhanced presentation, allowing any sign language student to increase comprehension and improve self-confidence.
This popular program created by Carol J. Patrie Ph.D., is an essential component to every ASL classroom as well as a powerful resource for interpreter trainers, interpreting programs, and working interpreters.
Using a template building approach, Fingerspelled Names and Introductions helps viewers recognize a pattern and mentally create a template for fingerspelled words that are found in introductions. Comprehension of the fingerspelled word increases once a template is built, and as a result the complete signed message is understood clearly.
Teachers--clearly defined menus make it easy to choose specific signers on the DVD to use for classroom participation.
Fingerspelled Names and Introductions on DVD makes the task of recognizing fingerspelled words less stressful for everyone, providing a necessary skill that will be an asset for interactions in the signing community.
Can be self-paced or assigned as part of a course in ASL or sign language interpreting.

Well put together resource!! Review by SU
Overall Satisfaction I use it for students in a fingerspelling class to work together on improving their receptive skills and also for them to learn what they need to know about Deaf culture (for example: names and nicknames of Deaf schools in major states). It's very useful. I've had good feedback from students. (Posted on 1/26/2017)

Great Resource Review by Murph
Overall Satisfaction Had this on VHS and now purchased on DVD. Use with interpreter mentees who struggle with fingerspelling. Not the typical fingerspelling approach, but VERY helpful in creating a template on seeing fingerspelling, just like the description says. It is also a good resource to look at how Deaf people introduce themselves. (Posted on 12/15/2016)

Very poor buy. Review by DST
Overall Satisfaction This DVD really teaches you nothing. If you are a hearing or Deaf person struggling to learn fingerspelling, this product is totally useless. Don't waste your money. (Posted on 7/7/2016)
